My Story
I'm Deanna McCool (pronounced Deena), the owner of Birdsong Bows. I grew up with a mom who sewed and crafted, and a personal love for crafting, drawing and painting. I also dreamed of becoming a writer. Fascinated with the fast-paced lives of newspaper crime reporters, I graduated from Indiana University with degrees in journalism and criminal justice, and a minor in Studio/Fine Arts.
Throughout my newspaper and public relations career, I maintained an interest in art by taking pottery courses, but switched to fiber arts - primarily knitting and quilting - when I was pregnant with my first daughter.
I discovered hair bow design in 2006 and grew my first business, Birdsong Bows, with a love for the art and craft of creating beautiful accessories for little girls. As business expanded, I discovered the joy in teaching others how to make bows and other items, and began writing tutorials to share my knowledge.
I live in northern Indiana with my husband, two daughters, an elderly cockatiel and three VERY elderly fish. When I'm not working or spending time with family, I love to make quilts, run, practice photography, read, dream about when I used to have time to knit, and watch birds.
