4-H Sewing: Front and back sewn!
Anna, with my help, has been working slowly on her 4-H sewing project - one 90-minute session each weekend, plus a short session mid-week (to do simple things like zigzagging the edges of seam allowances). This pattern (she's sewing View A) is marked as "Easy" by McCall's, but it's challenging for Anna! So far she's learned how to do curved seams (with clipping and notching included) and gathering.
The ruffled detail on the front, along with the two princess seams, are done. This weekend she created decorative ties for the back, and finished the two curved seams on the back of the garment.
On tap next week: Sewing the shoulders and side seams to connect the front and back, and gathering the sleeves/finishing sleeve edges to prepare for sewing them onto the blouse. There's plenty of "trickiness" ahead with the collar and the front band...and her first buttonholes. The project needs to be completed by the end of the third week in June.

She's lucky to have you for her teacher....I was taught at the age of 13. My neighbor traded babysitting for sewing lessons...those lessons changed my life...I have been sewing for 53 years...!!!!
I have done small amounts of work with my daughter (age 10) but I quite like the idea of 90 minutes at the weekend and a small mid week session. I think she would come on a treat like that. Just need to look for something to make.
Thanks! Barb - wow, sounds like you came out on the positive side of that trade! BusyLizzie - I discovered that an hour-long session wasn't quite enough (by the time we get settled, get the right thread in the machine, etc.) and 90 minutes was "just enough" for her age. We can get something done before she gets tired of sewing. And the mid-week session might be only 15 minutes, just to tidy up unfinished business from the weekend. This week, for instance, she needs to zigzag the seam allowances from this weekend's session!
